If you are searching for the perfect date idea to do on the beach, then look no further! These are the best romantic things to do on the beach. Whether you want to keep it casual or pull off all stops to surprise your date, this list is for you!
1. Watch the sunset or sunrise together
This is a classic romantic activity that is perfect for the beach.
It’s a great way to spend quality time with your partner while enjoying the natural beauty of the beach.
Grab a blanket to get cozy and either a coffee or a beer depending on whether you’re watching the sunset or sunrise.
Be sure to check what time the sun is setting so you don’t miss it!
2. Go camping
Second, on the list of romantic things to do on the beach is to take a romantic getaway and go camping.
Camping by the beach with your partner can be a wonderful experience.
Be sure to choose a beach camping spot that is convenient and has all the amenities you require. Some beach sites also require a permit so make sure to double-check.
Pack all the necessary camping gear, including a tent, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, and outdoor gear such as chairs, blankets, and beach umbrellas. Plan ahead and bring enough food for the duration of your trip.
Consider simple meals that can be easily prepared on a camp stove or over a fire. Don’t forget to bring some snacks, drinks, and marshmallows for s’mores.
To make the most of your romantic vacation plan some activities that you and your partner can enjoy together, such as beach walks, swimming, surfing, or paddleboarding. You can also bring a book or board game to play together in the evenings.
Take advantage of the beautiful setting and plan some romantic moments, such as a sunset picnic or a walk on the beach under the stars. Bring some candles or fairy lights to create a cozy and intimate atmosphere.
Overall, camping by the beach with your partner can be a memorable and romantic experience. Just remember to plan ahead, pack well, and make the most of your time together in this beautiful setting.
3. Couples massage
This next romantic thing to do on the beach is my personal favourite…massages!
Get spicy with some sunscreen or pack some massage oil for a relaxing beachside date.
An easy yet very effective way to be intimate with your date in a beautiful, relaxing setting.
Who doesn’t love a massage?
4. Take a long romantic walk
Walking hand in hand along the beach is a great way to enjoy each other’s company and take in the scenery. You can explore the beach together and even collect shells or other interesting items along the way.
I find long walks on the beach the best way to have an uninterrupted thoughtful conversation with your significant other. Check-in with your partner, get whatever’s on your mind off your chest, and truly connect in a peaceful environment.
5. Build a sandcastle
Get creative and build a sandcastle together. It’s a fun and playful way to spend time together and create something unique.
Pick up some cheap beach set from Amazon before you leave, trust me you’ll feel like a kid again!
6. Go for a swim
Take a refreshing dip in the ocean together. Swimming can be a cute way to bond and get a little flirty with your date.
If it’s time for a new bikini for your beach date, check out Asos or The Iconic, below are a few of my favourites that are on my wishlist.
7. Enjoy a beach bonfire
If it’s allowed, build a bonfire and cosy up together next to the warm flames.
You can even bring marshmallows to roast and make s’mores or a picnic with some wine and cheese.
To make a bonfire on the beach, pick the right spot with a pre-made fire ring or at least somewhere away from people. Dig down to wet and create a ring out of some rocks 12 to 24 inches wide. Lean your dry wood up against each other making a tower shape and fill the inside with some kindling. Then light it up!
Make sure to put the fire out completely before you leave!
8. Watch the stars
Once it gets dark, lie down on a blanket and gaze up at the stars. It’s a peaceful and romantic date idea to end the day.
Make shapes out of the blanket of stars to have a bit of fun.
Bonus points if you have a telescope for some proper stargazing. Side note, if your partner is a space enthusiast, a telescope makes for an excellent birthday present!
9. Pack a picnic
Pack a basket with your favourite snacks and drinks, and spread out a blanket on the sand. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon or evening together while taking in amazing views.
My go-to picnic essentials for a romantic date include:
- A french baguette
- Brie Cheese
- Crackers
- Salami
- Rose
- Dark chocolate
- Strawberries
10. Go for a drive
Jump in your 4WD, wind the windows down, crank the music up, and let loose as you and your date drive on the beach.
Make sure you can legally and safely drive on the beach and of course, watch out for beachgoers on the sand.
And don’t forget your road trip snacks, can’t go wrong with a mix of salty and sweet.
My favourite local spots to drive on the beach are without a doubt, Double Island Point and Fraser Island.
11. Write love letters on the sand
Next on the list of romantic things to do on the beach is for those with the love language, words of affirmation.
Grab a stick and write messages to each other in the sand. It’s a simple but meaningful gesture that can make for a memorable experience.
The best part is you can mix it up and include a few cheeky messages!
12. Have a romantic photoshoot
The beach is the perfect place to get some cute couple photos for Insta.
Buy a super affordable tripod with a Bluetooth remote control to take some photos together.
Or seriously up your game and have some fun taking epic photos and videos with a drone. If you are interested in buying a drone (not just for your cute beach date of course) check out my guide to the Best Drones for Travel Photography.
13. Let your creativity fly
Do something a little different on your romantic beach date by getting creative with some fun activities.
The options are endless here but to get your creative juices flowing, here are a few of my favourite ideas:
- Sketch or paint each other
- Do some mindful colouring in
- Make a scrapbook with your favourite memories
- Write a song
- Make some jewellery
Sometimes just being in the presence of your partner or date doing a thoughtful task is enough to connect.
14. Try boogie boarding
Borrow your younger brother’s boogie board and head to the beach with your significant other for some fun in the sun!
Boogie boarding can be a cute way to get up close and personal with your partner and to let your fun side run loose.
15. Bring an underwater camera
If you have a GoPro or action camera, bring it along and take it for a swim. Action cameras are a great way to capture authentic, in-the-moment shots and videos.
My favourite add-on to an underwater camera is a dome, to take images and videos that capture what’s happening in and out of the water. It’s a lot of fun to play with and won’t break the bank to purchase the piece.
Tip: If you have an AKASO Brave like me, unfortunately, they don’t have a dome, but you can buy the Teslin 6-inch dome and make your camera fit in with a little DIY.
To make your AKASO fit, take the protective camera lens off and pad the outside of the camera with some cardboard or tissues so it is stable and doesn’t move around.
16. Rent a boat
Renting a boat is a great date idea for really surprising your partner.
Firstly determine your budget. Before you start looking for boats to rent, decide how much you are willing to spend on the rental. This will help you narrow down your options and find a boat that fits within your budget. This isn’t the cheapest of the romantic things to do on the beach so it might only be for more special occasions.
When renting a boat consider the type of boat that you want to rent based on the activities you have planned and the number of people who will be on the boat.
Options might include sailboats, motorboats, or pontoon boats. Make sure to bring snacks, drinks, and of course plenty of sunscreen.
Take in the beautiful views, relax, and have fun with your partner. That sounds like a great idea to me!
17. Grab some takeaway and relax
Something as simple as grabbing a takeaway fish and chips or pizza and heading to the beach to share a meal with your loved one can make for the perfect date.
Why?
Because the beach has minimal distractions so you and your partner can spend more time talking instead of surfing what to watch on Netflix. Sound like anyone else’s usual date night?! Guilty!
18. Bring a ball to play some volleyball or soccer
Get competitive with your date and play some beach sports.
Grab a volleyball, soccer ball, or any ball you choose and set up a little one-on-one
Game on!
19. Learn how to surf
Learning how to surf with your partner can be a fun and exciting way to spend time together.
Here’s what you need to do to get started.
Firstly, look for a surf school that offers beginner lessons. Make sure to check the reviews and ratings of the surf school before booking a lesson.
Book a lesson: Once you have found a surf school that meets your needs, book a lesson for you and your partner. Most surf schools offer private or group lessons, so choose the option that works best for you.
Get the right gear: Before your lesson, make sure to get the right gear. You will need a surfboard, wetsuit, and surf wax. Some surf schools provide gear as part of the lesson, so check with the school ahead of time.
Attend the lesson: On the day of your lesson, arrive at the surf school early to sign waivers and get fitted for your gear. Listen carefully to your instructor and follow their instructions closely.
Practice, practice, practice: After your lesson, continue to practice on your own. Start with small ocean waves and gradually work your way up to larger waves as you gain more experience.
Support each other: Learning to surf can be challenging, so make sure to support each other and celebrate each other’s successes along the way.
Remember, surfing takes time and practice to master, so be patient and have fun with your partner as you learn together!
20. Grab some stand-up paddle boards
Stand-up paddle boarding can be a romantic beach activity, as it provides a unique and peaceful way to enjoy the beauty of nature together
Jump on the same stand-up paddle board for a cute challenge or get 2 boards and paddle side by side.
If you haven’t tried stand-up paddle boarding before, it’s surprisingly easy to get the hang of. You don’t really need a tour, just a couple of pointers for getting up on the board and you’re good to go!
21. Spot dolphins or whales
Spotting dolphins or whales in their natural habitat can be an exciting and unforgettable experience.
Dolphins and whales can be found in different locations around the world. Research the best places to spot them and choose a location that is known for sightings.
Go the extra mile and pick up some binoculars to help you and your date spot dolphins and whales from a distance. They also allow you to see more detail and get a closer look.
A good bet is going on a guided tour with a knowledgeable guide to increase your chances of spotting dolphins or whales. They know the best spots to look and can provide information about the animals.
22. Visit a beachfront restaurant
Visiting a beachfront restaurant can be a great beach date idea.
If the beachfront restaurant is popular, it’s a good idea to make a reservation in advance. This will ensure that you have a table and can avoid waiting in long lines.
Depending on the restaurant’s dress code, you may want to dress up or dress casually. Check the restaurant’s website or Instagram for inspiration on what to wear.
Since you’re at a beachfront restaurant, it’s a good opportunity to try some of the seafood dishes on the menu.
Bonus points for picking a beachfront restaurant with live music, it just adds another layer to the atmosphere.
23. Collect some shells
Grab a bucket or a bag and head to the beach for some shell collecting with your hot date!
Stroll along the shoreline looking for shells with interesting patterns and colors to build your collection.
At the end of your beachcombing adventure, you and your date can sort through your collection and choose a few special shells to keep as mementos. You could even use the shells to make a craft or a piece of jewellery together.
24. Zen out with some yoga
Doing yoga with your partner by the beach can be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
Whip out your best yoga pants, grab a couple of yoga mats and head to the beach.
Find a quiet and secluded spot on the beach where you and your partner can practice yoga without distractions or interruptions.
Opt for a morning or evening yoga session when the temperature is cooler and the sun is not too strong.
You can even try out some partner yoga poses such as the double boat pose, partner forward fold, and partner twist. These poses can help deepen your connection and create a sense of trust and intimacy.
25. Go snorkelling
Snorkelling is one of my favourite beach day activities.
Find a spot with clear waters, smooth waters, and coral reefs to explore the underwater world hand in hand with your loved one.
Amazon has some great snorkel options if you’re looking at skipping the rental option or owning your own set so you can snorkel anytime, anywhere.
Remember to bring your underwater camera!
26. Go for a hike for stunning beach views
Next on the list of romantic things to do on the beach is hiking.
A beach hike with your partner can be a fun and adventurous way to explore the natural beauty of the coastline.
Look for trails that offer scenic views, interesting landmarks, and diverse terrain.
Bring some snacks or lollies, and plenty of water and enjoy the journey.
I would even wear my bikini underneath my walking gear for a quick dip at the end of the hike.
27. Explore rock pools
I love exploring hidden rock pools at the beach.
Exploring rock pools with your partner can be a unique and exciting experience, as it offers an opportunity to discover the hidden world of marine life and appreciate the natural beauty of the beach.
It can be a fun and adrenaline-fueled activity that brings you and your partner closer together, as you never know what you’re going to find!
Plus if you are hopping over rocks you and your date can hold hands to support each other.
And don’t forget your camera.
Rock pools are often located in scenic areas of the beach, which offer stunning views and photo opportunities. It’s a chance to take some memorable photos with your partner and capture the beauty of the beach.
28. Jump on some jet skis
This next beach date idea is perfect for the adventurous couple.
Riding jet skis with your date is an exciting and thrilling experience that is sure to get your adrenaline pumping.
As you both zip across the water, you can feel the wind rushing past you and the spray of the waves on your face.
You can take turns driving the jet ski and feel the thrill of speed and control. The beautiful scenery of the water and coastline makes for an incredible backdrop as you explore the open ocean.
After your ride, you can relax on the beach or grab a bite to eat, and reminisce about the thrill of the ride.
Overall, jet skiing with your date is an unforgettable experience that will bring you both closer together.
29. Fly a kite
Flying a kite on the beach with your date is a fun and exhilarating activity that will bring out your inner child.
The wind blowing through your hair and the sun on your face creates a sense of freedom and joy. As you launch the kite into the sky, you and your date can work together to keep it flying and watch as it dances in the breeze.
You can take breaks to walk along the beach, build sandcastles, or even have a picnic.
Flying a kite on the beach with your date is a simple yet memorable experience that allows you to enjoy each other’s company in a beautiful and peaceful setting.
30. Have a movie night on the beach
A beach movie date night is a perfect way to enjoy a romantic evening with your cute date.
With a projector and a white sheet, you can create your own outdoor cinema on the beach.
Spread out a cozy blanket, bring some snacks and drinks, and snuggle up with your loved one as you watch a classic romance movie.
The stars in the sky add an extra touch of magic to the evening. You can pause the movie at any time to take a walk on the beach or even have a bonfire.
A beach movie date night is a unique and unforgettable experience that will create lasting memories for you and your partner.
31. Bike ride along the coast
Bike riding by the beach with your partner is a romantic activity that combines exercise with stunning views.
The fresh sea air, the sound of waves crashing, and the warmth of the sun on your skin create a unique and relaxing atmosphere.
As you pedal along the coast, you and your partner can enjoy each other’s company and take in the beauty of the surroundings.
Whether you stop to dip your toes in the water or explore a quaint seaside town, the experience is sure to be memorable.
Bike riding by the beach is not only a fun activity but also a great option to bond and create lasting memories with your partner.
32. Play some board games or cards
Sometimes all you need is a pack of cards to have a tonne of fun and share a few laughs with your date.
Bring a picnic rug a few board games such as Monopoly or Scrabble or a pack of cards to the beach.
This is a great romantic thing to do on the beach at sunset with a couple of drinks and snacks.
